On Monday August 10, classes resumed at ASE as the School launched its pre-academic year English course (Summer Camp). This course is for first-year students enrolled in both MMES and MBA programs and is taught by Professors Victor Marcos and Amzat Assani. This year the Summer Camp counts with the participation of three assistants, second-year MBA student Anne Khatali and Princeton in Africa fellows Zara Riaz and Sol Eskenazi. The main goal of the English Summer Camp is to improve the English skills of students from Francophone countries before formal classes begin through audio, speaking and writing exercises. In addition to the English course, which takes place Monday-Thursday, the assistants have organized an English Club on Fridays for students to practice their skills through activities such as watching movies, listening to podcasts, and discussing these materials in English. Last week, for example, students watched the film Coach Carter (2005, Dir. Thomas Carter) and then discussed its inspirational plot line and specific characters. Next week, a pre-academic year Mathematics course will also begin for first-year students, which will be followed by a comprehensive test in September to wrap up the pre-academic year activities.
