Today concluded the first week of the Summer Institute for Empirical Research (SIER) at ASE. Over 50 participants have attended the Traning on Research Design Workshop which covered, among others, topics such as GIS, Impact Evaluation and RCT Design and Financial Economics. Instructors that have participated in this first session of SIER are Abhit Bhandari (Columbia University), Deo-Gracias Houndolo (3ie, ISS Erasmus University Rotterdam), Dozie Okoye (Dalhousie University) and Cedric Okou (Universite du Quebec a Montreal).

SIER, which is co-sponsored by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), aims to contribute to the establishment of networks of collaborative, multidisciplinary research and policy engagement involving African academics and policy makers. It consists of three sessions: Training on Research Design, Research Conference and a Policy Discussion Roundtable.
